How it came to be
Early identification of developmental delay and intervention may optimise outcomes for a child by ensuring that the child’s developmental trajectory aligns with that of a typically developing child.
However, there is a lack of validated performance-based screening tools that are applicable in the community setting for four-year-old children that screen both motor and sensory skills.
Consequently, we developed a simple, quick to perform screening tool, the Targeted Motor Control (TMC).
About the TMC team
Amanda Bacon

PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Amanda is a physiotherapist with a master of physiotherapy in paediatrics. She has been working with children since the early 2000s and has a long clinical history of working across many paediatric sectors including private and public schools, tertiary hospitals, private practice and not-for-profit organisations. Amanda is passionate about equity for all children and enhancing every child’s potential. In 2011 Amanda developed the TMC.
Laura Hemmings

PHYSIOTHERAPIST & SENIOR LECTURER
Laura is a Physiotherapist and Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University (NSW). Laura has been working as a Physiotherapist since 2006 and has extensive clinical experience, particularly in paediatric and neonatal intensive care and follow-up of high-risk infants. Her PhD focused on intervention in children born extremely preterm. Laura continues to pursue research in developmental paediatrics and is passionate about growing the TMC to improve outcomes for all children.
